Seeing a teacher outside of school is like seeing a nun without her habit. Well, that’s just what the West Deptford Bowling Team did. They bowled with the teaching staff of West Deptford.
On Monday January 23, the Bowling Team had its fourth annual Student-Teacher Scotch Doubles Bowl. Students on the bowling team picked their favorite teachers and invited them to go bowling for the afternoon.
The team is made up of one teacher and one student. The object of the game is the team with the highest overall bowling score wins the coveted first place title. But there’s one catch. Otherwise, we would not call it Scotch Doubles. In each team, the student bowls first and whatever pins that the student leaves up the teacher then must try and knock them down. However, that is easier said than done.
“I think it’s fun to see the teachers out of their element and interacting in a different way with the students,” explained Assistant Bowling Coach Lauren Newman.
This event is purely for enjoyment, but there are still those teams that are very competitive and feel destined for greatness.
There were three top place winners. Dr. Gismondi and senior Ryan Bilger captured third place. Mr. Kirschner and senior Bruce Means came in at a close second, but Mr. Seeley and junior Morgan Brown took the cake and placed first after a strong consistent performance.
Not all teams were focused solely on winning. “Although Robinson and I didn’t bowl very well, we had a great time bowling with Vasallo, Seeley, and Kirschner,” said varsity senior Sarah Brown.
“People really go all out for this event. Some teams this year made t-shirts and some even wore costumes. It’s a blast for everyone,” said Bilger. “It just goes to show that teachers can be fun out of the classroom too, especially while bowling.”
