On Sunday, February 5th, 2012, the 46th annual Super Bowl was played inIndianapolis. The Super Bowl is the championship for the NFL (National Football League). The two teams playing in it were the American Football Conference (AFC) champions, the New England Patriots, and the National Football Conference (NFC) New York Giants.
Each team was going for its 4th Super Bowl Championship ring. Kick-off time was approximately at 6:30 p.m. The scores were close almost the whole game, each team putting up a fight. This is the second time the Giants and Patriots played each other in the Super Bowl. The first time was five years ago in Super Bowl XLI. The final score of Super Bowl was 21-17 with the Giants winning the game.
It was an intense game with a lot of back and fourth action. One of the great plays was the long interception in the 4th quarter by the New York Giants. Towards the end, there was about a minute left. The Patriots gave the Giants a touchdown so the Patriots would have enough time to come back and try to win.
Another historic mark about Super Bowl XLVI was the traditional half-time show, featuring 51-year-old Madonna singing “Give Me All Your Luvin.” LMFAO performed “Sexy and I Know It” and Nicki Minaj was sang “Give Me All Your Luvin” with Madonna. Many students said it was the greatest performance from Madonna in a long time and one of the best half time shows.
A British singer M.I.A, part of Madonna’s half time show, flashed the middle finger during it and caused outrage. NBC was forced to issue an apology. They said that in repeated rehearsals M.I.A never showed anything inappropriate. They even offered to show video rehearsals of the performance. “…the obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing, and we apologize to our fans,” said the NBC in a press release.
The Super Bowl was the most watched program in the history ofUnited Statestelevision, according to Channel 1 News. Social networking had some astonishing stats too. After the Super Bowl ended, there was an average of 10,000 tweets per second.
