From the quiet streets of West Deptford, I traveled to the loud city of New York for my President’s Day weekend. It was cold, but the hotel my family stayed in was right in Times Square. It had a great view. When I  looked out of the hotel window, I saw all the bright lights and people walking around Times Square..

We started off the weekend by walking around Times Square, getting the feel of things. It was a busy day. We stopped in the big Toys R Us and then went into the Hershey’s chocolate store.

The next day we went to see Ground Zero. It was a neat monument commemorating all the people who lost their lives in the 9/11 terrorist attack. Even West Deptford’s own Nick Brandemarti’s name was on the memorial, a student from the Class of 1997 who died in the attack. The wait to get in was about an hour, but seeing all the interesting things in there and remembering the victims made me forget about that huge line. It was a moving experience, seeing where the twin towers stood. Now there’s a waterfall in their place, and around it was the memorial with everybody’s name that died in the attack. It’s amazing when you see how close the buildings were to each other.

On Sunday, we went to the top of the Empire State Building. It was crazy high, and you could see all over New York, even the Statue of Liberty.

I would like to go back intoNew Yorkagain. It was different, nice, exciting, and there were street shows all over. If I were to visit in the future I would try to experience some new things such as visiting the Statue of Liberty or Macy’s.
