Secret Life of an American Teenager

All teenagers have a secret life, things that go on behind the scenes. Likewise, the television show The Secret Life of an American Teenager is not afraid to be funny and serious.

The Secret Life of an American Teenager aired on ABC Family. Its first season was in the year 2008. It was obviously a big hit because ratings went up by the second season. It airs at 8, a convenient time for teenagers.

But what makes the characters lives of Secret Life so sneaky and scandalous? Maybe it’s because the first season told the viewers how Amy Juergens, who is played by Shailene Woodley, got pregnant in her sophomore year. Teenagers can relate to this because Amy (Shailene) was pressured into having sex, and teenagers are pressured into doing stuff everyday.

Ricky Underwood, who is played by Daren Kagasoff, was a boy Amy (Shailene) met at band camp.  Ricky’s (Daren) past led him to a life of, well a bad boy attitude. Ricky’s (Daren) dad beat him and his mother. Until the 3rd season, Ricky’s (Daren) mom was not in his life.

But Ricky did not grow up alone.  Ricky was raised by Dr. Shakur, played by Brian George, and Margaret, she is played by L Scott Caldwell, and they were foster parents and were kind enough to take Ricky (Daren) in.

Currently Ricky (Daren) is working and taking care of his son, but this season he will be faced with a real challenge–staying with one girl. Ricky (Daren) recently confessed the fact that he does love Amy. But with all his past dramas, will there be more?

Last season we found out there would be another baby coming into two teens lives. Ben Boykewich, who is played by Ken Baumann, had one crazy night with Adrian Lee, who is played by Francia Raisa. But just with every decision comes consequences. They are now expecting a baby girl, and they have their own apartment. Ben (Ken) seems not so sure about every thing.

There has always been a computation between Ben (Ken) and Ricky (Daren) and Amy (Shailene) and Adrian (Francia). They were Ben (Ken) Adrian (Francia) have been known to be jealous of the fact Amy (Shailene) and Ricky (Daren) had a baby and a special connection with the baby. Some say they saw it coming but noone expected it to go that far.

With all the other characters in this show, their lives get tangled up. Relationships change, just like the ones at West Deptford High School. This scandals show is a “hit among all,” said Morgan Harris.

“It’s a show you can’t miss,” says a freshman Brittany Thomas.
