The Eagles and Packers met in week one with both teams not knowing what to expect for this season. The Eagles were managing a young Kevin Kolb and anxious Michael Vick, after letting go the two stars that led this team for so long. Donovan McNabb was traded to the Redskins and Brian Westbrook went to the San Francisco 49ers.
In the first game of the season, the Packers and Eagles met up and the end result was a disappointing loss by the Eagles. I was lucky enough to go to the game. The fans were ecstatic, always staying somewhat positive, but we were all crushed in the end. It was still a once in a life time experience that set the Eagles up for a season of ups and downs to come.
A lot has changed since week one. Michael Vick has become not only the starting quarterback, but the likely recipient of the National Football League Most Valuable Player award. He has shocked all with a monumental comeback. Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers is still emerging as one of the better Quarterback’s in the NFL after being remembered as Brett Favre’s backup.
According to the ESPN Accuscore Game Forecast, the Eagles are predicted to win by the score of 24 -23. They are a narrow 52% favorite over the Packers. During the season, the Eagles projected 389 yards per game, more than the Packers 358 yards per game.
Both teams were 10-6 at the end of the season, but the Packers were 3-5 on the road, showing home field advantage is a big deal. In head-to-head matchups since the year 2001, the Eagles lead 5-2. Both losses, however, are the two most recent games they’ve played against each other.
All in all, this game is pretty evenly matched, with both having 10-6 records, and both having incredible offensive force. This game will become an instant classic, with two all-star quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers being showcased, not to mention their relatively young defense.
This game will certainly be fun to watch. With both teams being evenly matched, it’s really any team’s game.
