Mix the sound of pins crashing, bowling balls dropping, and tons of fans screaming, and you have a taste of the NJSIAA State Championships. The West Deptford High School Girls’ Bowling Team advanced to the team State finals for the second time in fourteen years on Monday, February 13th at Brunswick Zone Caroler Lanes in North Brunswick.

“I knew we were headed for States after the girls’ first two games at sectionals. They were really in it to win it. And when we hit States, they did even better! They were incredible,” said Coach Aaron Burr. “I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

The Eagles took fifth respectively in Group II with 2,333 points, and while they were there, the Lady Eagles set a new record. The first game they played, the Lady Eagles ended up beating their highest series of the season, finishing with an 829. In fact, the Lady Eagles went home that day with a score that was 40 pins better than the previous year.

The 2012 West Deptford Girls’ Varsity Bowling was made up of five spirited girls: Jaelynne King (12), Sarah Brown (12), Maddie Miller (9), Stephanie Fanelli (12), and Morgan Brown (11).

“States was an experience of a lifetime, and I’m glad I got to share it with my bowling family. The girls really took me under their wings,” said freshman Maddie Miller.

The girl’s high games of the day included Jaelynne King with a 148, Sarah Brown with a 146, Maddie Miller with a 161, Stephanie Fanelli with a 171, and Morgan Brown with a 258.

“The whole process of getting to states was a team effort. No one could have done it alone, and we worked really well together. I’m going miss it so much next year,” said senior Sarah Brown.
