With the 2012 spring sports season underway, the Boys’ Lacrosse team is looking to take back the Olympic Conference title and to make it to the 3rd round of the State Playoffs. Even with some of the difficulties that the team is going to face this year, both of those goals are not out of reach. With Haddonfield being the only serious team in their way of bringing home the conference, the 2012 season will most definitely continue theWest Deptford vs. Haddonfield rivalry.

With the pre-season almost halfway through, the team knows what they need to work on and where their strengths are. With the loss of a few seniors last year that were essential to the program, they knew that there were going to be some holes in the team. Mike Nahas, a two-year varsity starting goalie, graduated last year which puts that key position into the hands of junior Brendan Gill and promising freshman Nick D’Ottavi. The team also lost one of the three starring defenders, which leaves the other two starters, junior Jon Hurlburt and senior Captain Tim Fair without a rock-solid third person.

The offense is not in as much trouble as the defense, with one of the best attack lines in South Jersey consisting of four-year starter Captain senior Nick Reardon, a very promising sophomore Mike Reardon, and junior Zach Kaestner. The midfield starting line is a talented group of all seniors: Captain Ryan Monaghan, Nick Baud, and Marc Laspino. The team has been without Nick Baud so far because of a wrist injury, which leaves junior Nick Carney filling in for him until he comes back, which should be just before the beginning of the regular season.

The boys have already had one scrimmage so far up atHolmdelHigh School, which showed a promising outlook for the rest of the season, but also showed some serious spots for improvement. Their next scrimmage will be Saturday, March 17 as they travel to Clark, New Jersey as they go up to face Arthur L. Johnson High School and Colts Neck High.
